It is easy to focus on what to tell the children, but what about the parents. We have put some tips together to help you focus on the evening.

• Know the route your kids will be taking if you aren't going with them (older children that is)
• The best arrangement is that a parent is present, so if you can't go make sure your children are with a parent that you know and trust.
• Find out about the activities that your child might be attending, if they are going to an organised event.
• Make clear to your child the time that they must return by. Make sure they know how important it is for them to be home on time.
• Explain the difference to your children about tricks and vandalism. Throwing eggs and flour might seem fun but cleaning up can ruin it for others. If your child is caught causing a nuisance and making a mess, make it clear to them that they will have to clean it up.
• Explain about consideration towards animals. Other children can be very influencial to your child, and perhaps in other circumstances they would not even consider frightening an animal, make sure they understand that Halloween can be a frightening time for pets and harming animals is morally and totally unacceptable.
