Christmas is here again and I felt that focusing on presents, food and all the other things that stress you out around Christmas could be given a miss this year!. So, I thought wouldn't it be nice to focus on "first time" events. My darling little Charlotte was born on Boxing Day, so we very narrowly missed Christmas Day. She was in fact two weeks early, impatient then and still is!. Charlotte is about 2 hours old in this picture.

Having a baby anytime is very special, but there is something different about giving birth at Christmas.

My best christmas present ever arrived a day late!

I wanted to share this special day with you, and hope that you will share your experiences with us. My day started at 5am in the morning. I remember waking for the loo, and found a discharge. As this was my second baby I knew what was coming. I felt relief, and then amazement that she was coming on Boxing Day!. I knew I was having a girl by the way.

I called my parents at about 7am to organise for them to come and look after James. They live in Kent so they had a fair journey to make. In the interim my friend Jackie took James at 8am for me, she is not an early riser and I thank her to this day for helping me out. Only true friends let you call them at that time on Boxing Day!

Well of we go to the hospital and 4 hours later, Charlotte appears 6lb 11oz, jet black hair, beautiful and mine!

As it was Boxing Day the hospital food was a stale cheese sandwich, YUM!. So I despatched Graham to make me gammon and cranberry sandwiches, and to bring back my mince pies and chocolates - I was starving. When the paedetrician arrived he was more interested in checking out my bounty of food than checking Charlotte. I was keen to get her checked so that we could go home.

I was missing James and wanted to get home ASAP to start our new family life. James welcomed me home in his usual loving way and let me know that he was still my baby by showing me that the baby car seat still fitted him!

Christmas is now a double celebration. We have started a tradition of going to Pantomines on Boxing Day for Charlotte and managing on most occasions to get her mentioned on the birthday lists - which she loves.

First time experiences at Christmas add something to our lives, my son's first nativity play at school was one to remember and capture on film, and I am sure that you all have loads of stories that you are bursting to share with us.
