Personal view: coping alone

I am a mother of 1 boy aged 2 years, I hardly expect anything from his dad because even if I did, he wouldn't offer, I am providing for all his needs, i encourage all single moms not to dispair, you may never know who that child may be tomorrow, .....the president of your country?!!!! God knows, another thing, no matter how hard it may seem, never give away your baby to "him" if he cant help the boy without, then he cant, within. God has a plan for every baby born, thats why it was never aborted. Cheers moms, you will make it. sarah

Its not easy coping alone can be very draining but the reward of seeing my son smile for the first time made up for all I'm going through son's dad saw him when he was 2 weeks old for a few minutes and he's going on 3 months old not received any kind of help from him upside is that i dont have to fight with him about whats best for my son i get to chose without the hassle of arguing about it hes in a great routing in both sleeping and eating time

When James' father decided at the age of six months that he could not take on the adult role of responsible father, I was determined that left as a single mother, I was not going to take on both roles.

In our British society, too many men easily walk away from their emotional and financial responsibilities and indeed too many women accept this burden on their own.

In our society, there is no prestige, help or admiration associated with motherhood. From my experience, when trying to ensure some dual financial maintenance for James, on £90,000 per year, James' father, a senior advertising executive, only pays his monthly minimal contribution of £572. Please don't tell me I am lucky - when the decision to have a child was taken as a joint decision - sadly James' father is unable to take on such a responsibility. Five years' later this figure remains the same and with a child's costs escalating, to request more, my only choice is to return to court - the most undignified experience I have ever been through.

Yet, I am lucky as I know I have a choice as James can always live with his father. And I believe, that perhaps from the age of 8 onwards, this will be beneficial for James. His father can then experience the daily grind of juggling alone work, childcare, finances, emotional and spiritual relief for a healthy life.

Women have choices too - we must never forget!

Sarah
