What are the tests?
|
On this page you will find links to sites that offer information about the different antenatal screening and diagnostic tests currently available in the UK.
ARC is the only national charity that provides non-directive support and information to parents throughout the antenatal testing process. Their role is to help parents arrive at the most appropriate decision for them in the context of their family life. Their web site has an excellent section that explains the difference between screening and diagnostic tests and describes the nature of each test.
MIDIRS publishes an excellent leaflet called 'Is My Baby Alright? Screening in Pregnancy'. The leaflet is designed to explain what the tests can and cannot check, help you decide whether to have the tests and understand what the results mean. You can download a free copy at www.infochoice.org - Select 'Consumer' and then 'During Pregnancy' from the drop down leaflets menu to display a list of leaflets available including this one. |
